am writing to you to ask for your help to launch a new initiative
for the benefit of the elderly, in the borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
The aims of this project are: To give the elderly in the borough,
a permanent high profile. To give the elderly and the organisations
that serve them a public platform, where they can communicate with
each other and the general public. |

| The
Management Committee for 60+ "Sixty Plus". On Wednesday
18.5.94, I went to see Ms Geraldine Timlin and Mr Ian MacAulay at
the 60+ "Sixty Plus" offices, regarding my application for
a written reference, to assist me in my search for employment. A copy
of this invitation from Ms Geraldine Timlin is enclosed. At this meeting,
Mr MacAulay appeared to be playing the part of an observer and said
almost nothing. I found Ms Timlin's reasons for not giving me a reference
an insult to the mind. |
| I
have enclosed all of the information that I feel is relevant to
my current problems with Ms Geraldine Timlin of 60+ "Sixty Plus"
(also known as Geraldine McGinley) I feel that I deserve a good written
reference, this reference should not include any details of my recent
project with the Kensington and Chelsea Times. Between October 1993
and January 1994, I distributed between 80 - 100 of the enclosed information
packs about the Gulf War. I did this in an attempt to shift some of
the dirt that had been smeared upon me. |

Labour Councillor - Ms Pat Healy. I am enclosing herewith the
response from Sixty Plus to my inquiry on your behalf. As I expected,
it does not take us any further and I do recommend that you use the
commendatory reference you already have. |
| Sixty
Plus. Further to our discussion today regarding your activities
as a volunteer with Sixty Plus I am, as promised, confirming the situation
in writing. You will have noted that I requested Ian MacAulay to be
present during our discussion. Approximately 10 days ago you asked
me to provide you with a reference and at the time, as I reminded
you today, you noted my hesitation about providing one. I outlined
the reasons for this at the time by stating that prospective employers
generally prefer to approach referees directly for an up-to-date character
reference, and also, as you were most insistant about obtaining a
reference for your own circulation, I explained that there wouls be
a delay due to pressure of work. |
| Kensington
& Chelsea Volunteer Bureau. This letter is a formal complaint
about the quality of service provided by the Director of the Kensington
& Chelsea Volunteer Bureau, Mr Christopher Brooks. At the beginning
of this year, I approached Mr John Moore, the editor of the Kensington
& Chelsea Times, with an idea that I had to raise the profile
of the elderly in this borough. All of the details of this are enclosed.
Because of the nature of the project, it was heavily dependent on
volunteer workers. Consequently, after speaking with Mr Moore, the
next port of call was the Director of the Volunteer Bureau, Mr Christopher
Brooks. It should be noted that this was at the end of January this
year, Mr Brooks was approached well in advance of the project being
launched. He agreed to provide the volunteers, has ample time for
preparation and was given continuous up-dates on each development
as it occured. In fact, he even once remarked that I may have been
disturbing him more often than was needed. |

reply from Kensington & Chelsea Volunteer Bureau. The Kensington
& Chelsea VOLUNTEER BUREAU Management Committee have met to review
your complaint of the 9th May 1994. With investigation, we feel Mr
Brooks did try to find you volunteers for your mailing, to the best
of his ability. In questioning Mr Brooks, we learned that, from the
time of your request, he mailed to the Help Service (approximately
60 volunteers), and made your volunteer request known to another 150
or so potential volunteers through interviews and contacting schools
and youth clubs. |
